Bank Recipient of Bailout Uses Counterfeit Cash
Bank Gives Patron Counterfeit Money
You’d think that with all the hundreds of billions of dollars the government is tossing the financial institutions, a person could at least withdraw money from her own bank account to do her Christmas shopping and not risk arrest.
The Palatka, Florida branch of Bank of America included at least one counterfeit $100 bill in the $800’s Sonya Small withdrew from her account for her holiday shopping. As she tried to pay for her Christmas purchases at Wal-Mart, the bill was identified as fake. The police took the bill as evidence as Ms. Small pled her case with a Wal-Mart supervisor, showing her the bank withdrawal slip.
Bank of America, one of the largest recipients of the bailout money, was able to come up with enough real cash later in the day to replace the money it had previously given Ms. Small. They even replaced the money the police had confiscated. Of course, when asked by the AP how they were using federal bailout funds, they responded with a basic public relations statement, giving out no accounting for the money.
