Ducking Shoes Instead of Questions, Bush Attacked in Iraq

Published by spinningfacts at 11:52 am under News, Politics Edit This

Lame duck President Bush had to duck twice as two size 10 (according to Bush) shoes thrown at him by an Iraqi journalist failed to hit his head. The gesture, considered an insult among Muslims, highlighted a surprise visit to the country that at one time was promised to welcome the US with open arms.

The (soleless) reporter stood up in the middle of a news conference with Mr. Maliki and shouted “this is a goodbye kiss from the Iraqi people, dog,” then threw the shoes, one at a time at the US President, just missing him in this (sneaker) attack.

As the foot is the lowest part of the body, showing the bottom of the foot, or the sole of the shoe, is meant to imply that that the person in far beneath them. You may remember that in 2003, when the statue of Saddam Hussein was taken down, that shoes were thrown at the toppled statue.

Dana Perino, White House Press Secretary, came away with a black eye when socked by a microphone during the incident.

I was on the phone with my BF when he burst out laughing and he described the scene to me.

All funniness aside, I am going to need some new Secret Service people come Jan 20.
